August Rush

Wyatt and I watched August Rush last night. I can't really decide if I want to recommend it or not. Ok, here's the good stuff. First of all, it stars Freddie Highmore, who is just too, too sweet and how can you not love this little guy? Second, there's no violence and no nudity/sex. There is however, the whole I just-met-you-two-minutes-ago-but-let's-kiss-and-spend-the-night-together thing, resulting in a pregnancy. So, not so good for impressionable teens.
For the rest of the movie, the 3 main characters try to find one another through the one thing that connects them...music. All in all the acting is good, although I was, at times, annoyed by Jonathan Rhys Meyers' accent. Is it real or fake? I don't know. Sometimes it sounded real and charming, other times it was like nails on the blackboard. Robin Williams is in it, he's good. Freaky, but good. And the music is great. There's a few cuss words and at least one "GD". So I guess check it out, but not with the whole family. Let me know what you think!

Finally back!

Good night nurse!! ;-) Okay, so now it's Friday and I am a whole day late...AGAIN. How very uncharacteristic of me. (pfh!) Well, let me just say in my own defense, I had every intention of blogging last night. But listen ya'll, I have rediscovered a favorite hobby! It's Sleeping!!!! That's what I've been doing lately, instead of bloggig and even reading! (gasp!) I know, it's crazy, but I've been a sleeping fool during my abundant free time lately. So, anyway, there you have it. Surely you can't fault me for that!
Anyway, I have been missing books...but I am saving myself for Bell and Jazz. (Only a few more days!) I know our reunion will be a sweet one! I also just finished reading Split Ends by Kristin Billerbeck. It was so fun and a much needed light read after Straight Up by Lisa Samson. Straight Up was a great book, but HEAVY! I would definitley recommend both of these books, but make sure you read Straight Up first (and with a box of tissue).

OK, I would love to keep going here, but in the time I have written this, my youngest sons have gone through an entire box of band-aids and now are in the sugar bowl. So, best be on my way....no promises of when I'll be back. (ELYSA!)

Okay, okay!

SHEESH!!!!I've been a slacker, I confess. Well, I haven't read anything at all the last few nights and I've actually gone to bed at a decent hour, so now I'm feeling GOOD! I'm ready to blog, blog, BLOG! BUT, I have to go break up a fight over a spiderman kite and help built a fort. I WILL be back later. Really.

What? No Bunnies? No Eggs?

If you didn't see the end, you missed the best part.
I'll be back on Monday. Have a Blessed Easter.

Back to Mayhem...what happens next???

Ok, so I read this great book last week, Murder, Mayhem and A Fine Man by Claudia Mair Burney, and now I have to wait until April to find out what happens next. That may not seem like a long time for you, but I'm about to come undone. I guess if I had given it a little thought, I could've just read one or 2 chapters a day (pfh! as if) and paced myself so my transition from one book to the next would be relatively gapless. But, well, I'm not really one for moderation. I won't even watch 24 when it's on TV because I would have to wait an entire week to find out what happens next. Or worse yet, I may miss an episode. I mean, you may as well trash the whole season if you miss an episode. And let's be real here y'all....we have 5 kids, 8 years old and under. What are the chances they'll stay quietly in their beds and not get out of bed for an entire hour? HA! What a joke! So, instead of trying to do the weekly epsisode thing, we just wait till the season is released on DVD and rent it. And watch the whole season in a week. or less. So, as you can see, I'm hardly disciplined in these areas. So here I sit. Waiting. Thinking about my new friend Bell. (I can call her that 'cause I love her.) And Jazz. What about Jazz? Ok, so does it work out between them? I don't know. And of course there's Rocky...all sweet, cute and pastory. Maybe Bell goes back to Rocky. Or not. And what about knucklehead-freak-boy from her past, does he show up? Ewwwww, I hope not! But I guess it's possible, right? Is the next book even going to have these people in it? I DON'T KNOW and I am just sooooooo jonesing to know.
The title of the next book is Death, Deceit and Some Smooth Jazz, so at least we know Jazz is still around. But deceit? What do you mean "deceit"? Who? Who does the deceiving? I just don't know...ARGH and I've got to, got to know, know KNOW!!

And look, he's not smiling!
On the cover, he's not smiling!! He was smiling on the first book, but not anymore. What does THAT mean? uh-uh-uh.

(sigh)

I did read the first chapter of the next one but you know that just teased me, which I'm sure was the point and thank you very much for that MAIR! Sort of like letting an alcoholic have a sip of your glass of wine. "Mmmmm...isn't that good?"
Anyway....here I sit...waiting till April...

A Day Later...

I picked up this little lovely at the library yesterday. I finished it about 18 hours later after I started it. Need I say more? Yes, I do believe I must! This is the first book I've ever read by Ms. Burney, and friends, it won't be the last. You'll be thinking, "YUM!" and "GASP!" and "HAHAHAHAHA!" and "Oh, my word I know that's right!" Grab the tissue box, you'll be crying from heartbreak as well as bellylaughing. You'll want chocolate. (sort of like saying, "you want air", isn't it.)Buy this book. I'll tell you more later. Promise.

Happy Birthday Morgan

Today is my nephew's 15th birthday.

Morgan’s Gift

I sat quietly and tried to think of a good gift for you.
Instead, I find myself thinking of your gifts to us.
Instead of writing your name on paper,
You wrote it on our hearts.
Instead of singing songs of childhood,
You shout with pure joy!
You may not see me clearly, Morgan
But do you see the face of God?
You are content,
and not distracted by the things of earth.
Do you know the secrets we try so hard to understand?
We worry about tomorrow,
You are at peace.
While we sit in your presence and talk amongst ourselves,
Does our Father talk to you?
Do you hear his voice more clearly?
I wonder, Morgan, what you could tell us about God.
I don’t know what you are thinking
when you are laying on your blanket.
More often than not when I sit by you, you ignore me.
You act like you don’t see me or even care that I’m there.
But every now and then, you stretch out your arm to me,
Or rest your head on my knee
And I thank God for you, Morgan,
A good and perfect gift from above.

Who Has Seen the Wind?

Who has seen the wind?
Neither I nor you:
But when the leaves hang trembling,
The wind is passing through.

Who has seen the wind?
Neither you or I:
But when the trees bow down their heads,
The wind is passing by.

uh...scratch that!

OK, since my last post, the sun has disappeared. It has been cloudy all day. It is VERY windy, not "breezy", and although it's in the high 60s now, it's supposed to storm tonight and not get out of the 40s tomorrow. Oh yes....wonderful...now it's raining. So, you know....whatever!

Mississippi Monday Morning in March

Technically, it's still winter. We have another 18 days to go before it's officially springtime. But today is breezy, and beautiful. It's too cool to leave the windows open very long, but too warm for the heater. It's somewhere between cool and warm. Daffodils are everywhere, buds are on the trees, and our yard is smooshy. Sounds like spring to me!

One thing...

Man, I miss Rich Mullins. Here are the lyrics to one of my favorite Rich Mullins songs. Listen now...What's your "one thing"?

My One Thing
by Rich Mullins

Everybody I know says they need just one thing
And what they really mean is that they need just one thing more
And everybody seems to think they've got it coming
Well I know that I don't deserve You
Still I want to love and serve You more and more
You're my one thing

Save me from those things that might distract me
Please take them away and purify my heart
I don't want to lose the eternal for the things that are passing
'Cause what will I have when the world is gone
If it isn't for the love that goes on and on with

My one thing
You're my one thing
And the pure in heart shall see God
You're my one thing
You're my one thing
And the pure in heart shall see God

Who have I in Heaven but You Jesus?
And what better could I hope to find down here on earth?
I could cross the most distant reaches
Of this world, but I'd just be wasting my time
'Cause I'm certain already, I'm sure I'd find

You're my one thing (one thing)
You're my one thing (one thing)
And the pure in heart shall see God
You're my one thing (one thing)
You're my one thing (one thing)
And the pure in heart shall see God

Every night and every day
You hold on tight
Or you drift away
And you're left to live
With the choices you make
Oh Lord please give me the strength
To watch and work and love and sing and pray

'Cause who have I in Heaven but You Jesus?
And what better could I hope to find down here on earth?
Well I could cross the most distant reaches
Of this world, but I'd just be wasting my time
'Cause I'm certain already I'm sure I'd find

You're my one thing

Newest Morsel!

Lookie here! See what my wonderful, enabler friend Elysa loaned to me? It's a yummy new book to read! And it's about a woman who loves Pride and Prejudice and Mr. Darcy and all that stuff that I blogged about earlier! Yay! And do you know what her favorite part of the movie is? Not hard to figure! The very, very, very same scene I wrote about, thank you very much and don't you think I need some more exclamation marks in this post? This is the most, most, very funnest book EVER! (There...have another!)
Ok, that's all for now.

Happy Birthday!

Today is my blogger brother-in-law's birthday. He's 40 something.

Happy Birthday Russ! Hope you are feeling better.
